Q. Define the following characteristics of waves. i) Time Period ii) Frequency iii) Wavelength iv) Wave Speed v) Wave Front

 i) Time Period: The required by one point on a wave to complete one vibration is called Time Period.It is denoted by “T” and its S.I. unit is second (s).

ii) Frequency: The number of waves produced by any source in unit time (1 second) is called frequency. OR The number of waves passing through a point in unit time is called frequency. It is denoted by “f” and its S.I. unit is Hertz(Hz).

or

iii) Wavelength: The linear distance between two consecutive crests or troughs is called wave length of that wave. OR The linear distance between two consecutive compressions or rarefactions is called wavelength of that wave .It is denoted by “ ” and its S.I. unit is meters(m).

iv) Wave Speed:  The speed by which a wave travels is called wave speed. Its is denoted by “v” and its S.I unit is meter per second (m/s).

Let  is the distance covered by a wave in time “T” so according to the definition of Speed we can write as

             Speed = Distance covered/ Time

                V= λ / T

or          V= λ x 1/T   -----(i)

As we know that

                f = 1/T

Putting in equation (i) we get

                 V=λ

               so wave speed is equal to the product of frequency and wavelength of that wave.

v) Wave Front: The Wave front is an imaginary line on a wave that joins all points that are in the same phase. A wavefront is usually drawn by joining all wave crests.

There are two types of the wavefront, depending on how the waves are produced, which are concentric circles and plane straight lines.In a ripple tank, a dipper can produce circular waves. These waves have a circular wavefront. In a ripple tank, a plane dipper can produce plane waves. These waves have a plane wavefront.

The Rotten System: It Stinks !!!

The top most problem for today's world is Capitalism because today every thing in your society is just to give something to the Capitalist system.Take your shopping list before fifty years from today and you will see that a 70% t least things you buy today was not in your shopping list that time.You didn't use shampoo,you didn't use carbonated drinks on your dining table instead you use water only.The problem with capitalism is that capitalism wants uniformity of cultures.Why? because unless from Sydney to Hawaii, same type of burger is not eaten,same type of chicken is not eaten, same type of jeans is not bought,same type of pizza is not eaten and same type of life style is not lived then the capitalist system will not flourish.Once upon a time Karachi i ate burger with 10 Rs,now it is of 20 Rs so why any one will eat the same burger of Rs. 175 from KFC if he will not have the same life style.We bought Jeans of Rs.100 some time back, now we buy it on Rs.500 so why anyone...

Its All In The Mind

Our mind mainly consists of two parts: one is called conscious mind (12%) and the other one is called sub conscious mind(88%). These two parts are very different to each other. Our conscious mind wants reason, it learn, it reacts or all about conscious mind is summarised as the sensible part of our mind. Now if we discussed about the sub conscious mind then it is somewhat different from the first part. The subconscious mind works as a tape recorder, when one thing is stored in it then it repeats just like magnetic tape. It doesn’t want reason, it records rather than learn. The subconscious mind knows how to walk, how to talk and regular working that we repeat time and time again. When we records one time that how to walk then every time we don’t have to think but we just act as the method is recorded in our sub conscious mind. How often we have seen that when we spent some time with a person who is suffering from a disease, after some time we feel that we are also suffering fro...

Exam Season .....Get Set Go!

Exam season in on , students are preparing for their exams.Many students have problem facing the exams , but remember my friend exams can be your friend it's just the matter of method you are adopting for the exam.Forget that you are a good student or bad student just focus , study and follow the rules i am writing here for you and see the difference in your results. It difficult but you have to do it first of all cultivate a keen interest in your subject by thinking about your reasons for studying it,by relating the material to your own life and by visualising yourself achieving your purpose.Many students don't score in a particular subject by thinking that it is not interested or it is boring,but remember every subject it there to give you something.Secondly make notes on the content of what you read or hear.Either write a summary in continuous prose and develop an outline with lettered and /or numbered headings and subheadings, the students only looking for note...
